This time we decided to check students in by calling on their name and chatting like Brian always did instead of beginning with class and making activities to let students share themselves. We had a nice chatting with several active students. Because of poor attendance, we decided to wait a few minutes to start teaching formally. Honestly, the silence and time ticking killed me at that moment during the process of waiting. For this class, we added the review part after we checked students’ attendance by asking them to type “yes” into the chatbox. The teaching objective today is to review four verb tenses and make sure students grasp the usage through practice and video. Sarah led students to review past progressive utilizing asking students to share what they were doing yesterday, explaining present progressive by comparing present and future use, and sharing answers with students after they finished group work. I was playing a video related to the present perfect to ask students to share the irregular verb of past participle they are interested in, introducing past perfect and leading the practice with students. While teaching, I feel that I lack the ability to organize students for doing practice altogether. It’s quite difficult to nominate students to answer the questions naturally because I think my expression is not able to encourage students to participate in and practice with joy and challenge. It might be too many questions over there about 10, so I feel it took me forever to do it when leading and organizing this part. Overall, the content of this class is informative but lacks some fun and interest for students. I believe we need narrow grammar rules to teach and trying to make it more interesting to attract students’ attention to engage in well.
