According to what we learnt from our previous class, we added more interaction with students, such as changing status and starting a poll. Although some students got confused how to use Big Blue Button to change status, Sarah patiently and warmly explained to students in details. Some of them changed status successfully, but some of them still had problems with that. I am thinking we should have done screen share to help left-behind students to get there rather than skipping them even though were catching up time. Also, we failed to use a good tool called name wheel to nominate students to speak out last time, so we decided to type students’ name in wheel based on students’ attendance while Sarah were greeting. I would say it went flow and organized compared last class. At least, we did not waste time on this part, which facilitated our class processing later.
For our teaching section, we employed a song named somebody that I used to know to help students to review the usage of use to + base form, which was pretty chill for students. To my surprise, several students even typed it into chat box to make notes. What I reflect here is that I should ask some open questions to interact with students. For example, ask students if they know about the usage of it and if they could explain more to us. Then we had group work to let student to create a story based the picture given and use simple past tense. It was a lot of fun. After that, we briefly mentioned simple future tense and explained the different expression of two forms we use for simple future. Then we practiced with exit ticket that we asked students what they are going to do on the weekend.
What we learned from this class is that we should sperate students from same country for group work because our Chinese students are quieter altogether. Also, trying to call on other students and avoid not always picking active students. Another thing is to change our lesson plan, adding some games to make class more fun and get students engaged more.
